Commitment

RYPEN is an involvement program. Learning by doing; developing skills and above all "giving it a go".

RYPEN is a weekend long program. The program offers participants a chance to interact with and learn from and with those from different backgrounds.

Activities include workshops, outdoor and hands on activites to develop confidence.

RYPENians:

"RYPENians" are expected to assist in the conduct of workshops, act as Team Leaders, present project team ideas and outcomes, thank Guest Presenters and assist with other various workshop tasks. In 2005 70 teenagers attended.

ROTARYians:

Selection of RYPENians (there is not limit on the number of positions a club may sponsor).

Meeting the cost of food and accommodation for the participants ($220 per RYPENian sponsored).

Transporting RYPENians to and from the venue (ideally this should be the same person to provide continuity to the participants) and;

Where possible the Sponsoring Rotary club should attend the Saturday night talent quest and dinner

ROTARACTors:

Rotaractor's (young people aged 18 to 30 years of age) act as mentors to RYPENians, facilitating group discussions, acting as buddies and getting actively involved alongside participants.

Rotaractor's are required to attend a leadership day, followed by a second day specifically focusing on how to lead discussion groups and conduct debriefing following group activities.

In 2005, 12 Rotaractor's participated. This proved a good ratio of RYPENians to Rotaractor's.

*Commitment is the key to action. Participants are expected to remain at the RYPEN site for the full duration of the two night event.
